Puppy and Kitten Care
Have you recently added a new puppy or kitten to your family? At Pell City Animal Hospital, we provide a comprehensive puppy and kitten care program to get our youngest patients off to a great start. Just as with people, our four footed family members are most vulnerable to diseases when they are young. We recommend that puppies be seen beginning at 6 weeks of age and kittens beginning at 9 weeks of age and then every 3 weeks until they have reached 15 weeks of age. Staying strictly on this schedule is extremely important to avoid costly and potentially fatal diseases. Deworming should begin at 2 weeks of age if you have younger puppies or kittens.
The series of puppy/kitten visits will include:
- Physical examination
- Training and nutrition information
- Client education about heartworm, intestinal parasite prevention, flea and tick control, microchipping, spaying and neutering
In most cases, pets not intended for breeding should be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age. This not only prevents unwanted pregnancies and helps reduce the tremendous pet overpopulation problem, but also protects your pet from many serious diseases later in life.
These visits are an excellent opportunity for new pet owners to ask us your questions and concerns. We are committed to being your partners in your pet’s lifelong care, and we look forward to providing you with all the information you need. We are here for you, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
